Bear Grylls (man vs. Wild) has been reported to have a Black Belt, I am wondering which system. Bear is in great shape and does seem to be very disciplined
I read in a magazine/newspaper that he had a black belt in Karate and of course was trained in hand to hand combat in the S.A.S.

I read in a survival book called Naked in the Woods that Grylls is a black belt in one of the five traditional karate styles known as Shotokan.

I went over that section i thought i saw. It is in fact in this book “Naked in the Woods” by Jim Motavalli that his black belt is in Shotokan. It has a very short interview with Grylls. He also directly supports the claim that his adventures in the wild aren’t actually as ‘wild’ as the show makes it seem. He says, “I never implied that I was actually out there on my own or that I even spent a single night there. I have camera crews, sound booms, lighting, heck, i even have Kraft catering on scene. The point is to show scenarios and what could happen if one was in that situation. I’ve done my time in the wild.”

First off….Bear is the MAN!!!
I have always loved the show, and i was a supporter when the whole faking nonsense came out…
In reality, anyone who didnt think scenes of that show were dramatized to stress the importance of safety in survival situations is a complete moron…
With that said, i think Bear is just trained in hand to hand combat and self defense the special forces way….meaning you might find out more if you check into what the requirements are for Special Forces soldiers…im not disagreeing and saying your wrong, i just have never heard that he had a black belt, and ive also never heard of military training that can hand out blackbelts…But if im wrong ill stand corrected…
I think i may have even heard before that the average marine today would be no better than any trained martial artist…but who knows…..either way bear is the man….
